At £450 it compares favourably with others in that class. I'm slowly putting together a shortlist.

My commercial grade Kubota is akin to Tom Fosters Lawnflite, also 6HP. but experience with Kubota spares tells me the rotted out grass chute deflector plate is going to cost a fortune, even if it's still available.]]>

I suppose the SP accounts for some of the extra weight.]]> Battery powered ride on mower http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=17096&Focus=301823#Comment_301823 http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=17096&Focus=301823#Comment_301823 Mon, 05 Jun 2023 08:17:33 +0100 PeterStarck
"I considered an 18-20 inch petrol but I've also been looking at cordless and in particular Ego mowers, does anyone have any experience? "

I have had Ego tools for three years and have not had any problems. I have a self propelled 47cm lawn mower which I use with a 5AH battery. I also have a 2.5AH battery that I tend to use with the other tools. The prices seem to have gone up quite a bit over the last three years.]]>

The cheapest I've found for a 17" model is £539 and for the 19" model £600. The five year guarantee seems good, most others are only three. It's the batteries that appear to push the price up with Ego their 56Volt 7.5Ah battery is £359.]]> Battery powered ride on mower http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=17096&Focus=301830#Comment_301830 http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=17096&Focus=301830#Comment_301830 Mon, 05 Jun 2023 19:52:24 +0100 djh I might look at those in the future. Good news of sorts, the deflector plate is still available, I guess it's a sacrificial component, at a cost of £100. Now I have to decide whether its worth it for a 20 year old, professional quality, heavy, but still running, machine.]]>

No, This deflector is a shaped metal plate attached to the underside of the alloy deck. This directs the clippings upwards into the collector bag. These pro machines are built like tanks with a thick cast alloy deck on to which all the other bits are bolted and can be replaced; if still available.

NB A previous Honda machine of mine had a curved metal deflector/ chute that was simply fitted in place of the bag to deflect clipping sideways. Most old, quality machines had such a chute as an accessory; probably banned by health and safety nowadays.
