Have been renewing the silicone around the bath tiles and to get a neat finish around the tap, I removed it. And while in my hands, decided to give it a clean, including the bit that is arrowed.

Unfortunately, I cannot actually remove it as years of (soft) water have kinda 'welded' it in place. Apart from taking a Dremel to it, what suggestions for removal? I guess now it is also somewhat distorted which probably only makes it more difficult to remove.

Thanks]]>

I have now reinstated it, as we prefer a bath over a shower, but will try some heat. Obviously gentle, but concerned that the chrome will do something.

WD did not make much difference and the flats are now closer to round. Guess the only will will be to more or less, destroy it.]]>

The flats are now somewhat rounded and not a lot of use. Evidently, it is built-in design feature to ensure that one has to buy a whole new tap.

I had no difficulty with the wash basin bits, cleaned them up and reinstall with a wrap of PTFE.

But this one will have to be replace when I get if off.]]>

Ideally soak half a face cloth in lemon juice or put it in a plastic bag and then attach the bag so the aerator is immersed. Leave it for 2 hours then wash it off. Gently try to remove it. If still stuck put it in for another two hours etc till it comes out. All taps need this treatment - especially the hots.]]>
