    Hi;

    I am a final year student studying Quantity Surveying at the University of Glamorgan, Wales, UK.

    For my final year dissertation I have set a question which asks whether the UK Governments CO2 reduction targets are achievable at present within the UK Construction Industry.

    However, as part of my research I have proposed a questionnaire that targets the areas which I feel most contribute to achieving the targets.

    I was hoping you guys may be interested in taking part. It will be used completely anonimously and will be in the format of an excel spreadsheet where you can tick the boxes and send it back.

    If you would like to take part please contact me at happyadd@hotmail.com
    and I will send you a questionnaire.
    Your contribution would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you so much for your time

    Adam

    Oh dear. Question 1 was quite easy (and you can probably guess my answer) but after that I was tempted to write a short essay about why it was impossible to answer the question with a mere tickbox.

    Questionaire design is a very tricky business.

    Yes, I agree, hard to answer with simple yes/no. A Dissertation is a steep learning curve though isn't it.

    Agreed guys;

    I did it this way so I can then use these results to conduct interviews to answer the "why" part of the "yes" or "no". I thought most people would look at it and wouldn't be bothered if there was too much thinking or writing involved. Wanted to keep it to 5 mins max.

    If you want to volunteer to be interviewed I'd be happy to talk to you.

    Thanks

    Where can we find the government targets for emissions from houses on the web? All I've seen are general figures for UK emissions. Perhaps I didn't look too hard though. Are there any articles on what this means for typical U-Values?

    The Government targets for emissions can be found in the Stern Review. Although this is a general statement on emissions as a whole in the UK. Have you tried looking at Building Regulations Part L for domestic dwellings. There is also a sustaianable Homes policy by the Government that has been released regarding all new homes being carbon neutral, that will probably give timescales and targets.

    None of it going to be achieved, current building regulations have no teeth in their enforcement processes. The stern review is a review, no more.

    The code for sustainable housing gives points for low flow taps which almost no one wants and bat boxes, recycling store spaces it sets a time scale but the definitions of zero carbon, carbon neutral are almost meaningless as they are unclear or non existent.
