    Hi All,

Well here is a short question on the RHI GSHP SPF calculation.

I recently requested that my installer calculated my GSHP SPF for me as in my opinion the default 3.1 was a bit low. The results have come back and the SPF for my unit is apparently 4.1 so that was good news.

My question is this though. I went back to my installer as they know the system and we have a good working relationship etc. I knew that this calculation would not be free but the actual invoice has been sent as follows-

Carrying out SPF calculation of your heat pump system and registering the SPF with Ofgem as requested £400-00
Carrying out Heat Requirement Calculation as requested £85-00
    Plus VAT £582-00

Now to me that seems very expensive.
What is the general opinion on this as I feel they are just cashing in on my back.

    Thanks.

Did they just use the Turmes formula or did they do some lab testing?
  2.
Now that is a very good question.

They had EPC and air pressure test results so I am not really sure ST. I also got the heat requirement calculations done for them.

With PV, any MCS company is not allowed to charge for 'quotes' and 'estimates'. Not sure if this is the same the RHI, but would think it is. Your case may be a bit different as it is post installation. But would have thought that a SPF should be part of the estimate energy yield/saving.

I can't remember who it was on here, they charged £300/day for detailed energy assessment.

    Fair point.

I also forgot to mention that I also provided my as built SAP calculations so thay had all the figures really.
It just seems a bit expensive for running a few calculations unless I am an under estimating the work involved.

Surley the heat requirement charge for £85-00 is pretty much taken striaght off the SAP calculation anyway?

It does seem high to me, why I wondered if they did some lab work because of the lack of data about heat pumps in general.

Have you asked them to explain themselves.
  4.
No, not yet ST. I think I will though.

Has anyone alse had similar charges for SPF calculations?

    Thanks.

I was charged £400 plus VAT for the original heat loss calculation by our GSHP installer, with VAT at 5% as it was part of the installation.

    I had a reassessment done according to Ofgem's requirements,https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/heat-pump-spf-calculation-template

However, I got a special deal through personal contacts but I would expect your original installer to quote a much lower figure for the reassessment as most of the calculations and data have already been provided. Not clear from the original post as to whether a charge was made for the initial heat loss calculation.

    Mikel,

    Thank you.

I had a SAP calc done before I built my house and then had an amended as built SAP calc done once I had finished the house. I had improved the insulation of the building.
I had an EPC done and also air pressure tests. This company also did a heat requirement calculation for me @£65-00.

My installer had all of this information that I provided. They now want to charge £85-00 for a heat requirement calculation (the other company had done this already) and a further £400-00 for calculating the new SPF and registering it with Ofgem.

I do not know but lets assume this takes 2 hours, £400-00 seems high to me.

I have questioned it with the company. No reply yet.
