I'm just about to have a Gaia 11kW turbine installed and maybe I should look at insurance!

Don't need it for the installation as that is covered by contractors but does anyone have any pointers to where I should look for operation insurance?

    job done!
There's only one insurance company, covers installation and operation - mostly for wind farm developments. Operation cover gives loss of income if your generation is interupted (other than lack of wind). Covers all risks except terrorism. Premium is 1% of turbine cost.

Would that include anti wind power protesters vandalism?

Wish I could insure my car for 1% of its value, be about 20 quid a year. Though I think that my house insurance is less.

  2.
    Windsor PLC is the insurer.
Steam Tea - I don't think even the insurers consider vandalism to be an act of terror but anyway I don't suppose they'll be many wind farm protestors willing to fly a 747 into a wind tubine.

I would not put it past then to use it as an excuse to wriggle out of a payout  It is a fine line between vandalism and terrorism:

Take your point Steamy but our turbine is quite near the house so I'd be out in a flash - we had pouchers the other month and they'll not be back!

sorry about that... here is the link again

  3.
We had the full cover for the first year at a cost of £550, covered everything including revenue. But as we had a 5 year warrantee covering all breakages and crane hire, for year 2 we just got liability cover on the farm insurance for an extra £16. When the warantee runs out we might go back to the comprehensive cover. (it's a Gaia 11kW turbine).
