I have just done a search on google and it appears that it may vary depending on where you live in the country. The price tends to fluctuate from what i can see and it gives you some tips also.
    Try this website: http://www.oilpricecheck.co.uk/oil.htm

    Good Luck

depends on efficiency of heating appliance, but my data suggests usable output approx 0.023 GJ/litre. 1 Watt = 1 joule/sec, so 1kWhr = 1000W x 3600sec etc etc

Heating oil around here is about 65p/ litre plus 5% VAT currently. Price varies depending upon the volume of a single delivery (usually 1000 litres) and by region too.

I don't think you'll find online prices for it as it is so volatile.

It is approx 11.72 kWh per litre (per Digest of UK Energy Statistics)

Thanks all. I've worked out form the above between say 5p and 5.8p/kWh [without considering efficiency in any great detail]
  2.
We've just filled our oil tank with 500 litres of oil costing £0.66 per litre. I'm sure when we first moved in 10 years ago, filling the oil tank cost £60.00 or less if you shopped around.

[I wrote this on another thread on 1/7/08). We're in Essex.

BoilerJuice (http://www.boilerjuice.com/) literally just quoted me 55p per litre for 2000 liters and I usually find my local suppliers are around 1p/L cheaper.

    500L they quote at 58p/L

Edit: Oops thats ex VAT at 5%
  3.
We being diddled or your suppliers are better than ours.

If you want to save some money try clubbing together with near neighbours and all order at the same time. You should be able to negotiate a discount if you can order an entire tanker full for a single delivery trip.

    I know someone in Horringer.

Interesting idea - sounds quite fancy having an oil club.

My partner has just ordered oil for our village. Mannaged to get an volume for order 11,300 litres at a cost of £0.5039 as opposed to being quoted £0.53 per litre for 1000 L. I villager was quoted £0.59 but she only wanted 500 L.
We live on the Northanptonshire/Warwickshire border.
I think we will continue this and see if we can get the price lower if we get to an order of at least 15,000 L

People power is certainly worth doing. We are also organising a village trip for a chimney sweep to see if we can improve on the price, plus we will look at the same for boiler servicing.

Mind you next year I should be using a woodburning stove and a log boiler - No Oil anymore!
