The food is produced, transported and cooked, worldwide, thanks to many kinds fossil fuel input. The fossil fuel content of the world's food-as-stored-energy is, I believe, about 80% - without fossil fuel input, world food production would be one fifth of what it is now, with implications for sustainable population levels. The world food industry is a way of converting fossil fuel into food. Doing things by manual labour may well be more fossil fuel intensive than e.g. using a chain saw (or chipper)In http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=2112&page=2#Item_2
