    Hi, Im new to the forum and would like some advice on a thermal store install that is causing us a few head aches please. We have installed a new system from joule that consists of a 400ltr store with thermal solar, solid fuel stove and a system boiler back up. Aside from thermal syphoning issues that we have from the store to the heat leak rad We are experiencing issues with the solid fuel pump running all night to the morning and also the store loosing temp when the solar thermal kicks in. My thoughts on these issues are that the store is acting as a radiator from the store and will not cool down tge pipe stat as its circulating water at store temp back through the fire? My thought on the solar are that the pocket stat that controls the pump is taking a temp reading at the bottom of the store and is delivering a temp lower than the store temp at the flow tapping thus resulting in the store temp dropping. Any advice to rectify these problems would be most welcome. Im not getting much in the way of advice from Joule at tge moment but will try the again tomorrow.

    I think a drawing showing all the plumbing and specifically indicating which bits are uphill or downhill from other bits would be a useful start to understanding the situation.

    Details of what type of solar thermal panels and pumpstation would also be helpful.

    Hi, Thank you for taking interest. I tried adding a drawing but it exceeds the file size :0( The solid fuel is downstairs and tge TS is on tge first floor. All expansion and heat dump the in the loft. The solid fuel circuit has a pump on the flow and the return. There is a pipe stat on the fire feed telling it when to come on but then it does not cool down after the fire goes out as its circulating the heat from the store to the fire thus sending it round and round and the pump keeps running even 10hrs after.

    I have spoken to Joule and they have recommended turning the pipe stat up to 65-70 degrees on the solid fuel and this should help shut the pump down sooner. On the solar side they have recommended turning the minimum operating tempreature up to 50 degrees to see if that improves the heat drop. On another note tge solid fuel pumps make a really high pitch noise. The pumps are Willo and the plumber has turned the speed down which helped but has not stopped it.

    Yes they need to be quite small I believe. I think maybe 500 K? Somebody will correct me if that's wrong.

    I'm not a fire/stove/boiler expert but even I can see that is wrong! :shocked: Hopefully somebody who does know will provide a solution shortly.

    I think I may have found the issue? I think tge heat exchanger is thermalsyphoning heat from the store via the heat exchanger on the solid fuel circuit to the heat leak rad in the loft. I think this is keeping the return temp high which is preventing the stove temp from cooling to shut off the pump. Thats my hunch???
