    Looking to add a first floor extension to our shop to replace our hipped roof that requires new roof coverings anyway.

    A few similar premises have a saltbox style roof, my thoughts are a flat roof would yield more usable floor area but waiting on planning for some outline pointers.

    Any preference on roof style or roof covering? Building is approximately 10m x 10m footprint

    Not flat. No parapet walls, no internal gutters or rain pipes

    I suspect your eventual design will be dictated by the planners - however I would echo tonys comments - Not flat. A gable ended pitched roof is best. If you have height restrictions don't forget you can get tiles that work down to a 5 deg pitch.
