Any advice on soft close drawer runners? What to look for. What to avoid. Best value. Recommendations...?

Hettich do some lovely ones for wooden drawers. Have used them on our kitchen and they have been faultless for years.

    Like these http://www.hettich.com/uk_EN/products/drawer-runners.html

You can buy them from Hettich if you set up an account or try these http://www.handles4doors.co.uk/kitchen_cabinet_cupboard_fittings/drawer_runners_systems/hettich_quadro_v6_drawer_runner_soft_closing.htm

On the woodwork forums they seem to recommend Blum with Blue Motion (their name for self closing) but they seem to be pretty expensive.

Most manufacturers have several models - these differ in how far the draw pulls out. For example on the cheapest models some of the draw remains in the cabinet. On the more expensive models an extra telescopic slider (or even two) are used so that the draw can slide out fully with none left in the cabinet.

The more expensive models also have more adjustments on them - for example you can adjust them so that the draw fronts are horizontal and any gaps between draws are parallel after they have been fitted.

Similar to Beau, over the years I have generally used Häfele and Hettich runners and hinges. They are trade suppliers and non trade supplies will generally be from re-sellers.
Blum products are fine and maybe easier to get hold of. A couple of other quality names to look out for are, Grass, and Salice.
If you are buying the runners separately and fitting them into pre made drawer boxes then best to go for the runners the drawer manufacturer is supplying as the drillings and machinings, (critical), may be different.
If you are making your own drawer boxes only go for a runner supplier that can give full tech drawings especially concealed runners. If you don't get it right it'll end up in tears.
For top of the range, from whatever manufacturer, go for concealed, full extension, soft close, clip on.
Although I've made dozens over the years, personally soft close or not doesn't bother me. Concealed and full extension are my priorities with good load capacity.

    Nice info, thanks guys.
  1.
Ditto above - I use Blum and whenever I have ended up with something else, such as on my horribly expensive double bathroom sink suspended cabinet the runners were not Blum.....and guess what not all the possible adjustments were there, and it needed adjusting despite being supplied fully fitted and complete. In short it's Blum for me esp as I can easily source them over the internet.
