    So here it is
    https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/nov/25/uk-government-to-introduce-grants-to-make-homes-more-energy-efficient
£1bn now rather than the 'extra' £6bn starting 2025, as per first post in this thread, or part of the existing £5bn ECOS? Anyway, this will be administered by the supply cos rather than by some American scamming outsourced under-resourced contractor like the last debacle.
  1.
Think it's as well as the £6bn

The money announced yesterday is for the ECO scheme which has been going for many years and spends about £1bn a year insulating low-income homes, and is/was funded by a levy on all bill payers (a stealth tax). There was some talk about removing the levy (to reduce the headline energy bills under the gov price cap) and replacing it with taxpayer funding. I don't know if that's what's happening here, or if this is actually some additional money.

The current eligibility rules for ECO were set in April this year, they said for 4 years, but sounds like they are changing them again.

The £6bn announced in your OP is just a budget provision for money that is likely to be spent in the next parliament, and will probably get used for ongoing stuff like 0%VAT on insulation, grants for heat pumps, ECO etc etc

Cavity wall insulation for all, if the EPC is D or worse I think the telly said? I will go straight round to my neighbour who still hasn't got it, never seems to think it will "pay back", gah. Free must be cheap enough for them? I'm sure they should be a D or worse rating, but they don't have an EPC, having had the house too long. Does that mean they need to pay for an epc, to see if they are suitable? Oh no, I can feel it slipping away....

As to loft insulation - the biggest cost if it's a pro job is surely labour. I think most people's lofts are full of carp - and moving this around to make ready and getting it back in there is a big deal. Better to make the loft insulation cheap, and many homeowners just get on with it.
