    We may have a quantity of large and small high quality high performing glazing available which is currently surplus to requirements. If any one has a project which could use these materials and is fairly local could you forward your frame sizes and an offer to us.
    We would probably not consider anything below 20% of the cost though.

    Bit OT, I used Pillkingtons "K" glass some time ago, about 4 years ago I replaced some windows and heard about, I think it was P's "S" type glass- some new variant. Anyway I found the P web site to see what the claimed advantage was for this glass. Absolutely nothing, the whole site was dedicated to provide a platform for lobbying the Goverment for various changes in the building regs, that surprise,surprise, would mean that Ps would have to supply shedfuls of new glass. I used the "K" stuff instead.

    Pilkington 'K' is hard coated, Pilkington 'Optitherm' is soft coated, which gives a slightly lower U-value. But even with this I think U=1.1 is being optimistic.

    With double LE-glass, argon filling and a warmedge 1.1W/m2K is doable for the glazing. Use Krypton gas instead of Argon and you'll get another drop of 0.1-0.2. Not bad, but expensive! :smile:

    Local being SW london and the home counties.The full specification is tedious and very long winded 10mmclear float glass heat treated and toughened with roller effect safety glass liner with 16mm argon filled cavity 6mm clear optimised FN /HS inner sheet with PIP vapour barrier and solar film liner.Soft edged.
    EN1096/1/1998 and EN 572/2/1994 10 year warrantied performance 1.1U value. probably left something else out too.
    This has been standard for most of northern europe for over 10 years ...another case of the UK being in the dark ages sceptical of anything that might actually work... ?
    Why is our culture so hesitant about raising standards in materials when this is part of the reason for our high energy consumption.
    I suppose I couldn't even give it away.

    Paul, many thanks for the offer. Personally I prefer buying ready made timber windows (prefrably from Scandinavia...) and not just the glass though. :smile:

    Thanks Johan and Paul. I was of course stuck in the 4mm mindset. Pilkingtons don't claim to get down to U=1.1 untill you move to 6mm thick glass. And Paul, with your 10mm+6mm that's certainly believable. But 32mm thick units and they're going to be heavy - getting on for a hundreweight a square metre. That would take a bit of redesigning of average domestic windows.

    How come you've got the stuff going begging? SW London isn't very local to Lincolnshire :sad:

    The panels can actually be part of the structure (and they need it).
    They are very good acoustically too.
    Most are spoken for, some have already been used but there are some available for the foreseeable future

    I am experimenting with inserting a spare into live trees via routed groove on the northern side and directly attaching frames and another panel to the trees.
    On alder trees the cambian layer is actually trying to get round the glass would love to see if they survive.
