The AECB water standards require that you have a separate meter for outdoor taps.

We're going to sub-meter our entire supply internally and I wondered if this was sufficient to cover this? Or is the idea that you have a separate (additional in our case) meter that only measures your outdoor tap?

Thought about it a bit more and it makes sense to have one just for the garden tap. Even better would be to have it right next to the tap.

A simple alarm and/or shut off would be of more value in reality.

My neighbour switched on a sprinkler on Friday evening last week and it's still running this morning - she's away for a few days - No water meter - doesn't care, basically - huge volume of potable water just wasted

Take a look (as examples) for the offerings from AquaLeak Detection - they have a number of units (of increasing complexity) - for simple applications thier water fuse ( Aquablock I think) is quite a handy thing.

    Regards

    Barney
