Sparkies popped round this morning - right on the school run - to see what was wrong with the E7 nystores upstairs. they have said the ancient E7 meters have broken and it's a job for our supplier - npower. Phoned them this morning and they said they'll send someone round today - up to 10:00 tonight, to put new ones in. So effectively without heat to everywhere except kitchen until this is fixed. What's the betting the guy will turn up just when I have to collect the kids from nursery and school and leave me with a little note "I called round but you were out", instead of new meters?

sparkies popped round to do a final tidy up and issue a certificate

they left having muddled a switch wire meaning the heating / hot water controls are up the spout.

woke up with the UFH on full tilt (we havn't switched it on yet)

all sorted by turning the boiler OFF, and we are awaiting their re-visit. (they'll come!)

two fires so far this year, and the difference between the new extension and the old part of the house? - chalk and cheese.

no LPG to be used for at least another month, and then only to moderate temperatures while using the stove, and keep the chill off the old part of the house at bed-time

Got back to the house on Saturday night having been away for a few days and as we had visitors put it on. Flicked the switch thinking I would have to up the room stat but kicked straight in checked the thermo and it was set at 14! Hasn't been back on since yet though and will try to hold out again until the other half is ready to kill me!

Heating still off at home and the window open last night. People (and it didn't look like just the smokers) eating 'al fresco' outside restaurants in central London ...

In the office today, we appear to have the heating on and all the windows open. Why they make a song and dance about making sure we recycle, I don't know.

I cracked on Sunday night. The Taybrite seemed to take a while to get going and I'd already baked 2 cakes.
  3.
Bright sunshine at midday - a bit parky but fine enough to be out to deadhead the roses.

Then a 20 minute episode in the evening where we had thunder and lightning, rain, hail, sleet and snow.

A huge surge in energy consumption last night throughout the UK I reckon. I've received pics this am of my brother shovelling a considerable amount of snow in Ottawa so it will be a chilly trick or treat night.

We live in a solid brick walled house at 650 meters altitude.
Lit the workshop wood burner in the passageway, for the first time since April, last night.
Our transitional heating is gained by opening all the windows when it is hotter outside than inside, but its been raining for about 36 hours, so I gave in and released some CO2. Trees have to grow you know.

other than a week long test of the UFH system (kittens and dog extremely appreciative) we have only had the stove burning a few times this year so far.

probably will get going in earnest in about a fortnight or so, i'd think. Wife starting to niggle.....!

Woodburner went on on on 27th Oct (came back from toasty Crete to find it had gone bloody cold in Britain. 11C indoors). Boiler on 1st time this year for half an hour this evg to warm up bathroom for a shower. All the hot water is still coming from solar.

Couldn't go the distance - kids gave me too much earache in the end:cry: I set the main stat for 16.5deg in about mid -October and the heating has been on maybe three or four times until last Monday. Been on and off quite a lot since then and stat now turned up to 19deg in the day. Will regulate individual rooms with TRV's
