    I am trying to get together some accurate costings for my diasaster of a project (as it seems at the moment)

    The concrete blocks will need rendering so the idea is to insulate externally and then render

    So far my options appear to be
    Straw bales (no idea of cost)
    Herakith boards (£67K?? - I must have it wrong:cry:)
    Difflum boards (even more expensive)

    Are they more conventional methods?

    PS really don't have a clue do I?

    Straw bales will work out cheapest. You could have grown some of your own while waiting!!

    Apparently there are already plenty of straw bales locally to do the job (however local horse owners are not going to be very pleased with me if I buy up all the stock!)

    75mm Heraklith Tektalan boards are about £12m2 the expensive bit is the lime render.
    This varies between £50 and £90 per sq m.

    Likewise bear this in mind with the staw bale option.
