    Hello everybody!

I'm retiring, having spent many a long hour in my office gleaning information and advice from the forum over the last 20 years.

In that time, we've built a lovely house in the New Forest and I think I can say without doubt that without the forum's existence, the house would not be as fantastic as it is, so thanks very very very much for all your help over the years everybody.

    Pip Pip!

Delighted. Does that mean retiring from rat race, or from GBF? If there's a difference?

Thanks for all the good wishes cards.

My job was looking after a bunch of properties built in early 20th century by a wealthy family group of property developers. Houses were built and sold, blocks of flats built in same lovely environment for poor people to live in and pay rent. Early social housing.

I was trusted to apply common sense and owner's money to all and send the leftovers to my bosses (Clients). A great job, treating tenants as people, not scum of the earth.

Time does march on though, doesn't it. People have deteriorated, as have the next generation of owners, as have the buildings!, yeah, to the point where I didn't enjoy my job much anymore. As legislation soup has thickened, so any lingering ability to apply that "common sense" spanner in my tool box has waned.

The Forum was a great distraction, but I've always applied a "don't take work home" rule and grandly announced my retirement as office is now cleared and phone and internet is switched off at end of this month.

Old age pension has come through (8 months late) and projects at home stretch far into the future. Have solar, 3 powerwalls and Model Y, just have to get my shotgun license and all will be well.

    Brain still functioning, password remembered!

Maybe the Ghost of Dickster will haunt the forum for a few more years yet! (Smiley face)

I had one - great fun, with 1172cc engine uprate, despite "almost unbelievable lack of brakes" - gigantic drums opertated by pull-rods.
