Posted By: SteamyTeaOh and when I say Legionella I am not talking about the bacteria in the water but about people being infected.

Legionellosis, then. Or, more informally, Legionnaires' disease.

To answer two points; I don't think anyone anywhere has died from infections caused by Legion..... that came from a domestic source and would be pleased if anyone can prove me wrong. Secondly most sprinklers are dry in that they are pressurised but full of air in the pipes not water which is held in the tank. The water in the tank is often used for other things; infact the design I like is where it is used on WCs so that we know very fast if the tank empties for some reason as people moan that the loo won't flush (it has happened).

Spa baths have higher than normal temperatures, large blowers to create bubbles, are often not looked after properly. I used to install them, never use them unless they share the water with the main pool. Have I told you about the worse job I ever had to do, was cleaning out the Sheffield YMCA spa bath filter (I still have no idea what those fine young men did in it).
Not really the same as a Friday night bath or the daily shower.

But good (not for people involved), that it has happened as it highlights this extreme case.

My firefighter son thinks they're a good idea. To the question of whether he's worried about being put out of a job, he'll remind you that the fire service has already been cut to the bone with consequent increases in response time in rural areas (and some urban). There'll always be work for them because they're a fire and RESCUE service. As long as people keep crashing vehicles they need someone to cut them out of the wreckage, likewise falling off cliffs!

    Hi,
Since this post was last active I tried to get in on the consultation in Wales. It had already closed. It saddened me that the committee didn't have a technical or statistical knowledge and seemed to want to plough on to meet it's deadline. Report here :-

    http://www.assemblywales.org/cr-ld8291-e.pdf

Sad to say they didn't wait for the new BRE report. And the Welsh fire department do not gather the data for old and new properties for fatalities in fires.

    Welsh fire statistics :- http://wales.gov.uk/docs/statistics/2011/110728sb742011en.pdf

Better presented and formatted British fire statistics :- http://www.communities.gov.uk/documents/statistics/pdf/568234.pdf

Shocked at how many fire alarms don't go off or raise the alarm - even in hospitals and schools.

Would have been informative to have a smoke alarm in that sprinkler demo.

    Richard
