Getting round to deciding on the render for part of the build. It's only taken 3 years to get to this stage!
If using say, a silicone type render, what happens where the render meets the aluminium door/ window frame? Can it touch,or is a bead of some sort required?
May use traditional sand/ cement/ lime, but I prefer the finish of modern renders.
    Thanks

Wemico do a vast selection of beads and some for window trim. Try the render only bead 3227 that comes with a clever break away stop that leaves the window clean and finished post render and painting

    You mean 3727?

They're excellent; we used them or similar throughout.

Yes Wemico have the answer - essential to use.

Andy, having got near completion, torn off the break away strip so you can see your render stoping neatly 3mm short of contact with the frame face, with just a bit of double sided foam-tape in between, do you reckon to leave it at that, or use the gap as home for a bead of high quality sealant? Because this is the very point where EWI systems have fail-danger - water ingress around windows.

Not sure of the price of the wemico (and really the material of the windows in immaterial), but I used standard ali stop bead and expanding foam tape which I am exceptionally pleased with. The tape acts as a thermal break as well between the frame and the render. My render is trad sand, cement and granite chips done in 2 coats. I also used a stop bead at the top and again put in expanding foam tape. The other thing is render, paint, foam tape.

I also fitted the thin corrugated plastic sheeting over the windows, between the bead and the window frames, to protect the glass during the rendering. Again, worked really well. Also able to slot some in as the render was done close to the soffit, saving hours of cleaning up.

borpin, no sealant bead then? Not sure what you mean by 'slot some in as the render was done close to the soffit'?

No, no sealant - always degrades. The foam tape looks so good.

I ran a stop bead horizontally under the soffit, leaving a 10mm gap. You can then slot in some of the corrugated plastic while the wet dash is going on, then put the expanding foam tape in to seal it up (once painted). Keeps most of the muck off the soffit and guttering.
