Leaving aside the numbers, I would never fit just one light in a room. Firstly, as and when the lamp fails it's useful to have an alternative source of light. Secondly, multiple sources help to fill in shadows that can otherwise be quite annoying. And thirdly, if they can be controlled separately, they give some flexibility in lighting to suit circumstances.

Make sure there's at least some overhead light in front of a desk rather than behind the person in the chair.

You can always plug in standard lamps or desk lamps I suppose, but I'd rather have too much than too little.

Go for an LED flat panel. We used to use cat3 lighting, which basically had lots of silver reflectors in a grid, so the light did not reflect off the monitor screens.

The LED panels give a very flat light, and do a much better job, look much better in my opinion.

A 300x1200 would be good for a rectangular room, but various dims in 300mm steps are avail (300x600 , 600x600, etc)

They come as recessible, but can buy a frame to make surface fix.

Office working usually are daylight 5000K. I'd have thought a 30W unit would be fine
