    Does anyone know where to get porcelain electrical and light fittings that aren't priced for the 'retro' market?

    Found these batten light holders:

    and cheaper on eBay

    But if you could point me to porcelain pull cord switch (the ceiling bit), that'd be good. Perhaps they don't exist, in which case I'd just like something built to last. We have on in a walk-in pantry, which is constantly being turned off and on.

    Cheap supplier of porcelain dolly/toggle switches would be great too.

    I went with one of the vintage Crabtree switches. I'll report back in 1-10 years time.

    Or maybe just a microswitch on the door so it doesn't get abused by humans.

    Considered that but the need for light on/off doesn't correlate well in use with the need for door open/closed.

    We picked up 4 of the Plain porcelain, lindner lisilux for 28 euros a go(no postage). Glass covering and all. I'd say value for money. Installing this week. Though i had a trial run with one the day after i bought them. Probabaly your thinking expensive.

    Not cheap but, as you say, value for money. I love their door bells.

    Here's one of these bakelite crabtree classic vintage pull cord switches. Have I labelled it up correctly?

    And what are you meant to do with the earth? (there's no back box to connect to)

    Yes, I would presume it is for lights as it is a 2 way switch. I would also presume that the earth would be cut back to the end of the outer insulation.
