An earlier point about taking two hours to drive 140 miles at 70 mph would save half an hour over someone travelling at a much lower speed. True, IF you can maintain an AVERAGE of 70mph - quite difficult if you don't want to break the law. In a forum like this, shouldn't fuel consumption and related emissions be of more importance than saving a bit of time? After all, most journeys are fairly low mileage and the difference over, say, a 35 mile journey in the same example would be a whacking seven and a half minutes, hardly time to get a leisurely drink. As the Americans should say, do the arithmetic.]]> How fast should we drive? http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=1977&Focus=65982#Comment_65982 http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=1977&Focus=65982#Comment_65982 Tue, 10 Nov 2009 19:59:19 +0000 fostertom Posted By: TumshieheidI used to coast in neutral until my son pointed out that it confuses the electronic management system which is there to optimise performanceYes, when coasting in neutral the EMS feeds in just enough fuel to keep the engine running; when on over-run in gear, the EMS knows that no power is needed so shuts off the fuel altogether. Unlike old (or present) carburettered vehicles, which are inacapable of shutting off altogether, but are set to supply enough fuel to tick over in neutral as a minimum, but might well draw more if the engine's turning over faster on over-run in gear.]]> How fast should we drive? http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=1977&Focus=66197#Comment_66197 http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=1977&Focus=66197#Comment_66197 Thu, 12 Nov 2009 17:55:48 +0000 CWatters How fast should we drive? http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=1977&Focus=78368#Comment_78368 http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=1977&Focus=78368#Comment_78368 Wed, 24 Mar 2010 14:49:36 +0000 gustyturbine Sorry, couldnt resist.]]> How fast should we drive? http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=1977&Focus=78372#Comment_78372 http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=1977&Focus=78372#Comment_78372 Wed, 24 Mar 2010 16:08:22 +0000 John B Posted By: gustyturbineThe roads are dangerous places, we all agree on that I would imagine?
