If I wanted 21°C with such a TRV, I would simply set it to 20°C or whatever actually delivered the temperature I wanted. And sure, a bang-bang mechanical control is never going to behave like a fully programmed digital control, but then an apple is never going to taste like an orange.

    Isn't the real issue that a TRV will overshoot in both directions. Set it lower and you're reducing the 'minimum' room temperature before the TRV calls for heat again and the time the the system takes to reheat.

    Yes, it's lovely alternating between being slightly too hot and slightly too cold. The open fire effect - "I'm cold, throw on another couple of logs"

    Negligible. Evohome seems to work off AA rechargeables.
