Solar PV on that big station roof.
Charging points for electric cars in the car park?
An office for the ticket staff (they are the only people who can work out the cheapest ticket).
Teleportation device for crossing to other platforms in the 30 seconds the timetable allows to make your connection.

Avoid:
Pay and display car park ticketing machines that require coins and a walk back to the car.]]>

I rather like train stations but not keen on bus ones, these need a serious rethink.

My parents live in the Chilterns, shall ask them what they want from a new station ]]>

1: Adequate length of platform for future stock
2: No less than r=400m for incoming lines (vertical alignment similar consideration)
3: Simple egress routes
4: Adequate Hall and messaging for waiting passengers
5: Adequate parking and bus facilities (ideally adjacent)

Exclude

1: Locations with drainage/flooding problems
2: Locations with no provision for amendment/expansion]]>

I would combine retail shopping with rail/bus stations, a decent cafe that does not charge too much (anyone want to see the picture of the second cup of tea I got out of a £2.20 pot), a library may be a good idea, just return the book to any station. Comfy warm waiting rooms (may need a soup kitchen for the vagrants, PZ seems to attract them, and their dealers/pimps).

Not sure you can have a station in a city centre without serious problems in rebuilding and noise. OK for an end of line, though it did nark me that MK station was not next to the shops.
Parking is an odd one, thought the idea was to stop us using cars, not just reduce the milage, what I always hear.
Carparks at my local stations have credit card machines or pay by text as well as coins.]]>

I know someone who got home to find his bike lock glued up with superglue so he couldn't open it. When he went back to try to force the lock someone had already done it and been away with the bike overnight. My local train station has the bike park on one of the disused platforms, so it is better, but something more is needed.]]>

Like the Park and Ride in Norwich then, that closes early so you can't go to the pictures or a meal after work. Though there is a hole in the hedge that I managed to squeeze the company Vectra and a lady's Suzuki through one night. Hole may still be there ]]>
