Any comments on availability and usefulness of transparent PV panels over a porch and toilet area instead of using rooflights? I have seen these somewhere and they are clear no translucent or bronzed. Any information out there?

I looked at this for a recent uni project. Seems very good, try contacting some companies like onyx solar or polysolar. I've no ties to these companies, just seen their products online. Would you let us know prices as I have a job at my fathers house and light use it.

Worth calculating the cost of the panels vs a normal window + standard PV panels elsewhere. There's been previous discussion of the Polysolar ones on this forum where somebody gave prices which didn't stack up for me. Slightly different, I suppose, if the only area you have available for any sort of solar collection needs windows.

These are amorphous panels so the W/m² will be a lot lower than for standard panels so you need to do that comparison on power, not area.

I believe the Polysolar panels are all a yellow/orange colour but I'm not completely sure.

Their available in any colour as far as I'm aware. The onyx solar ones are very nice. You have to look at also the thin film technologies work better in low light conditions and in excessive best where mono or poly crystalline will lose performance. It's not straight forward.

Could not see any performance data on the Onyx site.

If you want better low light performance, and you have room, stick up another module, it is cheaper and easier.

Are we still talking the transparent films? I think but not 100% sure but the actual panels made from amorphous silicone or cadmium telluride, not the transparent ones are cheaper and work out performing better.

Did this project ever reach a conclusion, if so can we have an update. Did it work, price etc

The panels absorb electromagnetic radiation, otherwise no energy output - are we sure that's not in the visible spectrum? If it is in the visible spectrum, then the remaining visible light that gets through, must be diminished.
