    How should I add a green roof to the build-up of a flat roof in BuildDesk U?

    Surely it depends on the roof build-up? Is it a warm roof? If it's a ventilated cold roof then it's outside the thermal sandwich.Is it deep or shallow? If it's a thin (sedum) mat the effect would be negligible.

    Warm, between 100-150 mm.

    All you need to do is work out the thermal properties of the mud when wet, the plants make no difference, got a video about 'grass growing' and all the thermal data on here somewhere.

    Just put soil into to buildesk - lambda of around 2 I think.

    TBH depending on the thickness of soil, I doubt it will make any difference to the U-Value of the system.

    Ta. True but I was wondering if it might effect the dew point.

    Unlikely to alter it much - assuming that there is a lot of insulation already in the roof. If that is the case, then the thermal resistance contribution from the soil is really small, and so the affect on dewpoint is equally small.

    In that case perhaps I'm better just to introduce a ventilated zone under the green roof and do away with any risk of interstitial condensation.

    I did some test 3 summers ago about how the temperatures where affected by different roof coverings, I think one was a ventilated gap.
