I note it is generally a requirement to have a ventilated firestop plate both on the underside (ceiling) and topside (floor) of the floor above. The purpose is to prevent heat build up in the floor void. However, we do not have solid joists, but EZ joists, which effectively mean that any heat build up would spread across the whole of the floor void. Would this be a reason not to use ventilated firestop plates? I'd rather not use them as it provides a route for smoke to the whole of the house in the event of a fire, it would conflict with the ventilation system, and presumably noise can spread from floor to floor. Any thoughts?
