Hi, I need to swap out some old Dimplex storage/convector heaters at my Scottish partially insulated cottage on a hill. I want it cozy, have woodstoves that heat the place adequately for me, but family want to walk into a warm house. Currently on economy seven. Not sure IR is the right thing for me, certainly don't want them on the ceiling, how do the different core filled rads compare? Oil filled, Clay, ceramic etc? Any direct experiences?
  1.
In my experience oil filled rads are electric radiators that use the oil to distribute the heat around the rad. surface whereas clay or ceramic heaters tend to be storage heaters. Two different approaches to heating.

If you have E7 and can plan your occupancy then a storage heater may be a good option (they can be put on a timer or remotely switched but will need forethought to switch on during E7 times. Oil filled rads give instant heat but could also be switched by timer, but won't benefit from the reduced E7 rate.

Slow to warm up, but yes, 'as and when needed'.
  2.
I have cheap Stiebel Eltron wall mounted heaters. They provide heat quickly and are small.

Oil filled rads may also - in my experience - sometimes leak.
