Does anyone know if it's normal practice to require BOTH foam-backed breeze blocks on the inner wall AND cavity wall insulation?
More to the point is there any problem with the combination?
Can't find answer anywhere - getting different stories from builder/plumber/wall insulation company !!

Hi Rob, Who makes foam backed blocks? Can you point us to some info on them?

To answer your question, some types of cavity wall insulation alone will give the required thermal value to comply with building regs.

Sounds both a poor and an expensive way to do it.

How about wider cavity and put more insulation in it?

You know the ones - those breeze blocks with foam/polystyrene glued to one side.
The house is mid 1980s - I think they were used a lot then.

Somebody said that CWI next to the foam/polystyrene can cause problems - others say no probs!

Sorry, I forgot to say that this is an existing house!
I think I may have got you barking up the wrong tree.

Or perhaps I'm in wrong forum section! Ooops I'm a newbie in case its not obvious
    :shamed:

You should be OK to cavity insulate with fibres either rock wool or glass and polystyrene beads should be OK too. The problems are with foam though in practice that may well be OK to. All these things are pretty inert once in place.
