Is that really what they were hoping? Or do they need replacing anyway, for looks or for emergency lighting?

Electricity is dramatically less carbon-intensive than it was even a few years ago, so there's less environmental benefits now from scrapping and replacing existing fittings. Just avoid halogen downlighters.]]>

I understand what you're saying, but a modern T5 with an electronic ballast may be twice as efficient as an old T12 with magnetic ballast. LEDs can approach the efficiency of a T5 fitting.]]>
