I've just got the drawings back from the structural guy doing the calculations and he's specified 9.5mm OSB sheathing and noggins at 600mm centres.

I'm sure I read somewhere (if only I could remember where!) that noggins are not required when using an OSB sheathing layer?

Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Triassis,
    what centres are the studs?
US t/f specs allow for just studs @ 16" IIRC, 400mm?
    Cheers:smile:

Studs and rafters all at 400mm centres.

Tom, I was, but it started out as a discussion about OSB thickness, rather than noggins.

OSB usually only comes in 9mm, so confirm with the engineer why he (or she) said 9.5mm.

As for noggings, assuming wall panels are standard heights, noggings are not needed structurally. The OSB, studs and rails do the work. Of course adding them is not bad, but equally it doesn't do much good in this type of wall. Also it will increase the thermal bridging of the insulation between the studs and reduce U-Values a bit.

The structural guy is adamant the noggins are required, because the software says so! Great !!

Not quite the same I know but I've got 350mm I-beam portal frame with 15mm OSB3 external racking and no noggins.

I never used noggins except for non sheeted internal load bearing with bracing.
