General: Protection for under floor soffit

    Cabin in the woods project; built 200mm off ground on piles. Under the floor joists, I have to fit a 18mm plywood soffit to give the structure stiffness and to stop vermin getting the floor void and the warmcell insulation falling out.

    Painting/treating the panels is a one shot deal, it gets done this once and then will be inaccessable for ever.........So what is the best protection?

    Carcinogenic, apparently.

    Richy, I will shortly have the same issue. I was going to rely on good airflow and waterproof glue in the wbp ply. How are you going to fit the ply? I was going to put slate-lath battens on the btm edge of the joists and drop the ply in.

    Nick, We're building the floor in sections so we can fix the ply before the sections are lowered into place.

    I've seen wpb ply delaminate in 3 years when painted but where water has got in the edges. I'm pretty uncomfortable using it at all. Marine ply is the same stuff, just resistant to sea water.

    WPB is a softwood ply with boiling-water proof glue. marine ply is hardwood based with boiling-water proof glue.

    wbp comes in all sorts of hardwood finishes? is the core softwood?

    I did principal floor beams at fairly wide c/cs, laid 18wbp over them, then 200x38 joists - spacers really - over them the other way, Warmcel between. Plenty of through ventilation, no problem 5yrs on.
