I'm looking to replace the existing halogen downlighters in my upstairs hallways.

I think I'm looking for the following features

    - airtight
    - able to have insulation over the top
    - fire rated
    - reasonable cost

I can buy many hoods for insulation - but they tend to be more expensive than most lights. I'm also a little unclear what covering an LED with insulation will do to it's lifetime - they mostly seemed to be design to heat-sink above, rather than back into the room.
I don't actually need them to be bright - the hall is currently lit by only 2 of the 6 downlightsers with 35W bulbs - so I think almost anything will be OK if I have all 6 working.
I'm not totally sold on integrated LED fixtures. If one fails then I imagine the chances of being able to replace it is pretty low.

The best option I've seen so far seems to be these
    http://gb.auroralighting.com/Lighting-Products/Indoor-Luminaires/Fire-Rated-Downlighting/Universal.aspx, which I've seen for around £10

    Anyone come across anything better?

The best I have used are PhotonStar. You can their trade range of ecostar which I think are around the £35 mark but don't quote me on it. Those aurora ones look OK, depends on what your after.

The light output of them is fantastic compared to other LED fittings they are also very well made and there is no glare off them. I also found on several jobs that a lesser quantity is needed or where where daylight dimming is used that they can be dimmed to low levels and still produce the lux levels needed and gave the client a good saving.

No ties to the company only that im a satisfied specifier of their product.
