I am currently trying to arrange work experience placements to develop my skills in various natural building methods. I am most interested in traditional timber framing and cob but I am keen to learn as many skills as possible. I am 24 and I live in Norfolk. Building with natural materials is what I plan to do for a living so I am very keen!

My email is paulshark8@yahoo.co.uk

Please get in touch if you would be interested in offering a work experience placement

Lots of work on the land and in the woods, coppicing etc. We are creating a large stone raised bed area for our kitchen garden. We make our own cider using the traditional cider press here. We keep sheep, poultry, rabbits, pigeons etc for our own consumption and try to be as self-sufficient as possible.

We are looking for someone to come and live and help out here - swapping skills and knowledge, help look after the animals (pigs and cows should be here soon), carry out building maintenance, help with the land, etc.

We would rather a long stay - 12-24 months - perhaps a couple, even kids, the most important thing would be that we were like minded and could get on and both got something out of it. Due to France's draconian laws its impossible to pay someone casually - no money could be involved and you would need to be prepared to become a resident here to get basic health cover. We would provide accommodation in a mobile home and all food - you may prefer your own area to do your own veg and animals? We have loads of space. We could however offer the right person some legit work with my hubbie when he does go and work (in the Channel Islands), which he does about once a month for a few days.

May suit someone in a transitionial period of their live, or a semi-retired couple who have income from their home, or someone looking to downshift or move to France and would like a real taste of it first?

If you interested in finding our more initially - please email me: heritage.admin@orange.fr

Take a look please (my link is below) to see if there is anything you fancy reading and grab yourself a bargain. Most of the books are brand new. I have also listed our own 'green building bibles' at a good swap price if you prefer to swap for them rather than buy.

My list is here: http://www.swapshop.co.uk/userinfo.aspx?id=GreenBuilderMan

This is all inspired by my son who introduced me to the fantastic Swapshop system so if you do sign up to start swapping then please do so via his recommend a friend link so he can benefit a little from the inspiration. The property is situated 70 miles from Prague in South Bohemia.

We are currently at the stage of planning the project, though we do have a larch roof now in place on the property.

We have plenty of space, but facilities are a little basic - solar bag showers, outhouse/composting toilet etc. Though we do now have running water.

In the summer we have an abundance of cherries and apples, and a wide variety of edible mushrooms can be found in the surrounding forest. We are close to the Prague Vienna cycle route, and are located between 6 world heritage sites within daytripping distance. The property can be reached by bus or train.

I’m off work the week of Monday 24th August and am happy to travel, so if anyone’s in need of some volunteer labour on ideally a strawbale build, I’d love to hear from you.

I'm envisaging doing this in the South of England or possibly Normandy. The rules would be, everyone must commit, legally, until the final house is finished. Other details, for example which type of L C housing, how it will be funded, who does what, what the investment comprises (cash, mortgages) would be worked out by the final group.

Maybe lots of people here have experience of this kind of project etc, I don't, this is completely new to me but I am willing to support the gathering of candidates for such a project until the final group comes together.

Please let me know if you'd be interested.]]>

Anyway, it's on offer here to the highest 'bidder' plus postage (it's not a big publication, so the postage won't be much). I won't put it on eBay in case it goes to one of those grasping dealers who'll put it up again for some stupid price. I'd rather it went to a good home that will make use of it.

If you go on Amazon or Google it, you'll get an idea of what it's about.

Published by the Wadebridge Ecological Centre in Cornwall, it's a typical 70s eco publication from the days when those of us who were in to such things developed our own technology and made what we could out of what was to hand. I bought it in 1991 at a library sale at Compton campus when the University of Wolverhampton was still the Polytechnic. It had only ever been taken out once.

It's actually in very good nick, still with the library stickers on it to avoid defacing the pages, and contains pretty much all the information you'll need to build your own hydropower source, but remember you've still got to provide the means of generating that electrical power from the water turbine, but you're spoilt for choice there.

If you're interested then email your bid to

Oldcollier@btinternet.com

And it’ll go to the highest bidder, even there’s only one!

I’m on holiday until Sunday 10th, so if you do email I can’t get back to you before then.

Thanks.]]>

I want to let you know about a free listing service on my website Stovesonline. Our customers are increasingly interested in sustainable building and many are planning or in the middle of newbuilds and extensions. What better time to steer them towards more sustainable solutions.
So we have made a section on the site where our customers can see listings for various sustainable suppliers. Joining is free and will continue to be so - this is not a money making exercise.
Currently there are the following sections:

Architecs / Consultants
Solar Thermal
Solar Electric
Wind Power
Biomass boilers - meaning largescale woodchip boilers, etc
Heat accumulators
General building products
Books and Information

You can see what the main page looks like here: http://www.stovesonline.co.uk/services/sustainable-suppliers.html

obviously as we have only just launched it there are few listings on there at the moment.

You can fill in an application form here: http://www.stovesonline.co.uk/services/services-form-altenergy.asp

We have finished a login system so that once you are set up you will get access details to maintain your own listing and upload pictures and logos, etc. It will be a few weeks before I get round to sending out these details though...

Cheers 4 now
