Hi, I'm looking for suppliers of quick/lump lime in the south of England (near a ferry port - Weymouth, or Portsmouth) as I'd like to export some outside the EEC (to the channel Islands), does anyone know of a good supplier of high Calcium lime ready to be slaked?

    Cheers,

    Jembe

I can get hydraulic in the channel islands but I would like lump to make about two tonnes, much cheaper way of doing it and more eco friendly, thanx though.

Mike Wye just says he gets it from Buxton, they don't seem to have any ideas of suppliers closer to home and they sell it preslaked, any help would be appreciated.

France is nearer to the Channel Islands and they know much more about lime than us Brits.

I recently bought some lime mortar from south wales, then was talking to SPAB about my next project the re-pointing of my solid walled Terrace house, I was asking if they could recommend anyone more local to me in Chester.

Yes he said there is a guy called Niel Andrews who I realised lives 2miles from me. I rang him he told me he was a stone mason & he would sell me Lime Putty to add to locally available sand.

He gets his Lime from a company called Singleton Birch I had a quick look at there website last night.

Biff. I'm surprised at you why should he have to go to France when we have our own stonemasons.
  1.
Arnold, he should go to France because he lives in the Channel Isles, which lie close to France. He should not go to Singleton Birch because they are in Lincolnshire, near my house but a very long way from the Channel Isles. To be a green builder lime miles have to be more important than petty nationalism, for which I have no time.

I make some of my own wine but, to be honest, I've had French wine that is better.

Thanks guys, as a follow up, I got some quicklime from an Agri in Normandy (I happened to be doing a job there) they chuck it on the land to neutralise the soil over there, not sure why it has to be quick though. Although it says it's only 92% calcium, it still slakes for months without setting and it's fairly cheap, 130Eu for 600kg, which makes over a tonne. No problems with shipping as I forked it onto the back of my pickup. Thanks for your help. I'm now looking for a local(ish) supplier of Methanol... any ideas?

Quicklime is fairly dangerous stuff and reacts with water, boils on contact with water --- I dont think that we are talking about quicklime in the chemical name sense.
