Products: What is this wood board?

    I see this type of laminated wood board used in continental Europe but cannot find examples in this country (though there was the Grand Designs episode where the Californian owner/builder imported it from Germany). It seems to be structural or for furniture, depending on thickness. Does anyone know whether it is readily available in the UK?

    I think it's what's called cross-laminated timber in this country. Web search for "cross-laminated timber uk" will bring up some links.

    I saw at least one house at the Scotland's Housing Expo in Inverness built out of it.

    Very nice! Looks like a contemporary take on a BISF house from the one side!

    Yes, these are similar products, there are many different variants, and with so many thickness variations etc. I doubt it's in UK stock. You may have to order minimum quantities

    I used to know a supplier of similar interior 2M x 1M panels in selected hardwoods, I don't know if they are still around.

    Thanks, googling that does give me a lot more info, and some nice pics.

    I suspect finding small quantities in the thinner boards is unlikely - pity, as it looks great.

    Used to be sold here as Furniture Panels in all the DIY stores in the 80s at least - 30cm and 60cm x 180cm x 15mm and 25mm thick. Surprised if it's not still available.

    Kerto is a laminated veneer lumber (LVL) product


    Sounds a bit like plywood :-)

    You remember that stuff. Hard to get these days. Most places sell fake plywood made from Wheatbix with just veneer on the outside.

    At a casual glance CW it does seem like bog standard ply. But some of it is pressed with the grain all in the same orientation, others with only 20% "X " lamination.
    There are other types of these technical panels, presumably from different Companies/Countries all with a slightly different take on the theme of engineered wood. I like using it, the precision is a dream to work with.
