We have now got quotes for reglazing our home:
Velfac and Allan Brothers are about same price - i got a special May offer from Velfac !
    Olsen slightly more
Rationel quite a bit more - extra £4,000
We are looking at aluclad - u values are similar - we are retrofitting existing windows.
Any comments on quality, style, reliabilty/delivery times, ease of retrofitting, aftercare with these companies ? Is it worth spending more on the Olsen or Rationel windows ?
    Thanks for any comments.

Several problems, what are your existing windows?

The new windows will likely have more frame so less glass

Some Velfac windows get over this by letting the sashes almost abbut the brickwork so can look odd with a thin gap which spiders love.

I like the best ali clad but they are more expensive but will not ever have other windows.

What are the U values of your walls and. Do plan to inprove there and how?

3g give much better sound exclusion.

I am not in a position to comment because I don't have any of your listed windows.

However, having seen quite a few different makes at various shows, I am always impressed with Velfac. Everything abut them seems to be very, very good. Which brings me to the but.......

I installed 3g windows with fibreglass (pultruded) frames. They have very thin sightlines so we have lots of glass. The 'but' is the shadow gap; like Velfac, looks great, especially at a show or showroom, and as mentioned above, the spiders and other creepy crawlies love that gap!

Velfac are good windows well designed they are very keen to sell but less keen to deliver. Lots of negative comment about them on the web so beware is all I can say. Rationel and Velfac along with Velux are part of the same group of companies.

Anyone used baltic timber products? I am assuming not as posted a link last night and no response.

Been trying to get through to the UK supplier, who is quite near where i live. Not in all day today :(

The website looks good, just need to speak to someone now.

    Have you looked at http://www.slideandfold.co.uk/index.html

I am also going to get a quote from them. They will be much cheaper than your list, but quality may be not as good.

I was considering local company Velacine who do a timber/aluminium composite. But then one of their vans cut me up on Monday morning, doing about 45mph in a 30. So I'm out.
