I'm not sure what the Magdalen Project in Chard, Somerset is up to these days but they were looking for lime plastering volunteers at one point - possibly when they built a straw bale round house. Might be worth investigating.

Probably too far away but the Magdalen project (Chard, Somerset) hosts excellent, inexpensive courses on a wide variety of subjects including lime work. The lime courses are run by the Dorset Centre for Rural Skills.
beyond that if you son wants to come and do some lime plastering in East Devon over the next few months (simple accomodation available) please whisper me your email. Using pre-mised lime putty plaster and nhl plaster.

Drop me an email - I may be able to help. We have a technical manager who spends all day, every day visiting render / plaster projects, all using lime based products. I may be able to arrange some days out / site visits / work experience / labour for him.

    Hi Sarah,

I have just put a post on here which goes more in depth about what we offer but we here at amazonails are running a 4 day clay and lime plastering course which your son may find very useful. It looks specifically at using lime and clay in modern building and how when and where to use these natural plasters and finishes in your own buildings.

Please feel free to contact me if you require more information about this course on 0845 458 2173 or info@amazonails.org.uk ; we are running more of these clay and plastering courses in 2009 so also keep an eye on our website www.amazonails.org.uk

I hope that this is something your son may be interested in!

    Thanks

    Heather
