I went to the Halifax yesterday to sort out new house and contents insurance. As we ran down the list of questions on the managers computer we came to one asking about the energy performance rating. I didn't have time ask but ...

What difference does that make to Insurance premiums and why?

    You must be yery young!

What ever answer you give will get you a higher premium of course -- no answer costs even more

Thats how insurance works -- we pay them.

If it is Building Insurance for say an old house. Then a good rating would indicate an extensive refurbishment - overseen by someone who knows what they are doing - so probably less risk due to build quality?

Thats the only thing I can think of

I've just tried an online Halifax quote and changing the EPC doesn't make any difference to the quote.

Most likely they are collecting data for future use.

If you give them the wrong answer, it gives them another way to avoid paying a claim? :)

    Cynic, who me?
