I am replacing the bottom rail and lower section of the stiles on 2 largish - ( 1280 X 540 ) & elaborate victorian casement windows .The plan is to join the old & new stiles with a glued and (brass) screwed splice. I am not entirely sure that this will stand the test of time, which I would like it to do. however, my time doing the work is relevant and this method is simple . Can anyone suggest an alternative method ? Observations or options welcome

Thats the way to do it! Cut the stiles at 45 degrees or steeper with the long point orientated so that water runs of the joint, not into it. Awkward job, but rewarding!

thanks richy. Awkward yes, and a rewarding experience, but not very rewarding £-wise

I leave the splice a little proud and then plane down after for that "grown there" look
