    Hi,

    Site clearance has finally started for my new build and the builders are going to get going on the foundations in mid-November. I have booked in the connection of a temporary power supply with UK Power Networks and now need to organise an energy company to come and install the meter and supply me with electricity.

    I have two questions I'm hoping the forum can help me with:
    1. Can anyone recommend a good energy company to be with during the build phase?
    2. I have no idea how much elecricity building a house will use. If I go down the price comparison route do you think I should use low, medium or high consumption as a ball park option?

    I'm currently with Ebico for my home supply and happy with both their customer service and pricing so they'd probably be my default option.

    Buy a generator now!

    Would a generator be better / cheaper? The contractor has a generator and will use it in the short term, but wants to switch over to the temproary supply.

    Good luck with getting it by the time you move in, mine came two weeks before completion and the water two weeks after.

    They are unbelievable

    They've promised they will turn up to install the temporary site supply on 3rd Nov so hopefully they will!

    I got my supply installed by UK Power and meter via SSE then switched to Ebico (Ebico don't do new connections). Apart from some confusion with my electrician about exactly who is supposed to do what when, it all went swimmingly and on the promised dates.

    In my case, I got the permanent supply connected to my garage, which I'd already built. I can recommend that if it's possible. I got an Economy 7 tariff so that they would install an Economy 7 capable meter. I really couldn't care what tariff I'm on during the build because I don't think we're using very much and I've no idea how to estimate it anyway. Compared to the other costs, it's invisible.

    My temporary site supply is now set up. EDF installed the meter as they were the only people I could find to do it in my area (London).

    I was pushed onto a commercial tarrif as I apparently can't have a domestic supply before the house is built. On the weekend I was searching around for price comparisons and came across the below site who gave me a sales call to talk about switching. Has anyone used them?
