I have a cellar that is about 12 ft square and 5'8 high. I want to enlarge the headroom, it is a victorian house so foundation depth is obvioulsy an issue. What do you think BCO would say to leaving a foot or so around the perimeter of the cellar and having a ledge with the remaining dug down?

    is it clay subsoil?

I recon the BCO would say to underpin it, how far down is the bottom of the footing/foundation?
