    Just looking at building a summer room.

    I dont want a glazed roof due to poor performance in summer and winter.
    I would prefer a solid thermally insulated roof but just been thinking another option may be solar glazing with an embedded pv array.

    I know it will be expensive but just wanted to know if anyone had actually used any and how expensive it is and would it provide any thermal insulation in the winter.

    BedZed used it quite extensively I think. Get in touch with Bioregional to see how they got on with it. I bet they have some sort of minitoring going on.

    I dont think there is any insulation value. I've never heard of it in double glazing. let us know what you find out Nigel.

    I've seen a product called Power Glaz which is PV film embedded between two sheets of glass: don't know about the costs involved but if you find them out, do post them here, I'd love to know.

    Powerglaz is made by a company called romag using BP solar pv cells and I am told the cost is somewhere between £650 and £1000 per sqm.

    Its based on a double glazed unit which can be argon filled to give a reasonable U value.

    I have come to the conclusion that its more aesthetic than effective and it would be better to put on a solid roof and use some roof integrated pv.
