    Hello
    I am about to start planning a second solar thermal installation.
    My current installation (which works admirably) has a twin pipe arrangement with stats for incoming/outgoing flows incorporating pump, pressure relief, flow rate, and air collector/purge.
    A single line pump is a lot cheaper/slimmer but then there is no incoming stat (not a problem) and no air collector, but I assume I could install a standalone automatic purge elsewhere in the circuit?
    Does anyone see a downside to this simpler/cheaper pump station option?

    I use single pump, no AAV, just manual bleeds, 12 years all fine

    I have a single pump station about 12 years as well. what I did was put a tee on the pipe as it exited the roof for collector, and continued the pipe up the rafter on the inside of attic so that it was higher than the head of the solar collector , I fitted a manual bleed there, and as it is the highest spot any air travels there and it is easy to bleed ,as its in the attic not out on roof .

    Thanks all - the panels are above a bedroom in the roof but there is a small loft space in the apex and could put in a vent there if I can. Are auto vents a problem in anyone’s opinion - have not used one before but would seem to be pretty much maintenance free?

    The Caleffi auto air vent we have has worked flawlessly since 2006. No leaks and the two times the system has been filled its vented all the air

    I have done the same as the poster Dathi and it does the job ok.
