Hi all, firstly thanks to you all as i've been lurking on here for some time avidly absorbing (not contributing yet though!) very informative and interesting information/opinions. I am however, seeking help in the form of somewhere to park my campervan, a field or farm or drive etc, in or near York while i complete my renewable energy engineer training, in exchange for labour/help on your project/farm/house for a couple of hours in the evening ( i have some useful skills) I know i could wildcamp but in the interests of networking and experience i thought i'd ask. I am a musician (folk) who is retraining in this field (not some crazy hippy! at least not that crazy) and i have found that B and Bs are not only expensive but somewhat uncomfortable and generally not my thing! The period would be starting in July, 4 nights a week, Monday through Thursday for a few weeks although i'm doing it week by week, not consecutively. I'm going to put this post on Lili and Wwoof too. Anyone who may be able to help please whisper me. Thanks for reading this, Joss

Thanks for your reply Mike. I intend to be mainly self sufficient in the van but a 13amp socket for an extension if you're on mains would help as i've not got the split charge/leisure batts resolved yet! i am going to go swimming twice a week and have shower etc and rig up some sort of portable compost loo for the van so wouldn't need to use anyone's bathroom. Depending on where i park the van i was hoping to cycle in and out, i'm at a private training centre called PPL Training, James St, starting at 9 a.m. til 4.30 a.m. and then some study in the evening. I live up in Carlisle so it would be a great help to find a pitch somewhere! The only downside to parking is it's quite a big van- Merc 814d... Any help much appreciated, even if it's only for a week, it'd save me about £100! Cheers, Joss

I did a two day solar course at PPL York, they let me park my motorhome in the car park, there was also someone else there with a caravan, have you asked them if you can do the same ?

    Terrier.

Thanks Terrier. Yes they're willing to let me do that but as i've got a few weeks of training i'd prefer somewhere a little less industrial to wake up in if you get my drift! it's my fallback position though... Cheers

    Hi Joss,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Exactly how big is the van ( Ht and width), I'm not familiar with campervans. Although I have a field to the rear of the house, access around the buildings is slightly restrictive in one spot. Cycling into James st. is easily possible from my place, along country roads without ever going near major trunk roads. Mike.

Hi Mike, thanks for the reply, sorry for the delay too, been working abroad. I'll get some exact measurements of the van tomorrow (tues) and get back to you but it is a slightly bigger than normal van, just hope it fits because the field sounds perfect! Joss

Hi Mike, the van is 2.2 m wide and 2.85 m high. It is quite large as you see! Do you think it'll fit? Cheers, Joss

Mike, good to talk to you earlier. Just realised further to our conversation that you would have seen Kathryn performing with her brother as a duo (with Amy too sometimes) at Hovingham. The full band did the gig fairly recently a too but without Amy so therein lay the confusion! I'll be in touch, Cheers, Joss
