I am trying to develop a simple survey for homes to help track the uptake of energy saving measures

Can you add or change any of my questions -- max no of questions is ten

    Survey

Have you installed any energy saving measures during the past twelve months?

Do you have any solar panels on your home?

How much Loft insulation do you have? 100mm 200mm 300mm? more?

Are your walls insulated any better now than when the house was built?

Do you have double glazing ? or triple glazing?

Are your windows and doors draught proofed?

Is your boiler a condensing type one?

Would heating type be more appropriate as I do not have a boiler and how about an energy monitor fitted. There are also things like lower energy use washing, drying machines and fridges/freezers.

Maybe worth considering behavioural elements too...

How do you dry your clothes?
Do you ensure appliances are switched oof at the mains?
Do you shower more than bath to save water?
Do you follow your kids/parter around the house turning off the lights behind them!!!?

To your loft insulation question you have to add "0" and "don't know" and probably "don't care" my experience would suggest.

Lighting types, in Watts if possible, would be useful (lowering the wattage of some of my CFL as they seem to be better light than the ones I bought 7 years ago).

You going to run the survey on us and see how we all come out against national use.

    And why not...

    'If not, why not?

    Don't consider it necessary/Waste of money/Cannot afford it/etc.'

    As Damon said...!

What's the survey trying to achieve?

For example the question "Are your walls insulated any better now than when the house was built?" could be answered yes/no/Don't know. So you can't get much information from it. You can't tell the reason for the answer. I would answer "no" because by house was built recently and is reasonably well insulated. I would also answer "no" if I lived in my garden shed that hadn't been insulated.

Heat recovery ventilation or trickle vents?
  1.
Age of house? - this would help sort out some of the answers. A new(ish) house with no added insulation would be v. different to a 1930s house with no added insulation

There is a very clear correlation between SAP and age of buildings. You can see the steps as they introduce new legislation.

EST home energy checker sites a good start

I like the idea of an online survey, that one does a lot of assuming and gets my house way wrong but it could be very useful.

I thought it was very good. Most people don't have any clue what their options are, what the relative measures would cost, and what the payoff would be. The tool does a decent job of suggesting relevant improvement measures from what I can see.

    Seret , I agree.
Tony, your house if far from standard so it's not really surprising it cant give an accurate picture of it .
