    Is government funding into the private sector for R&D a form of social manipulation? it strikes me that it is getting out of hand. As it is public funds are there some form of third party scrutiny measure in-place?

    Our own (green building) sector is not free of this. In fact we will see it explode even more in the coming year or two. Perhaps Government R&D bodies should have stayed property of the public then chasers of such funding would not have become so prolific.

    I'm sure that some good work will have come out of some of the funding but I've often seen better work steamrollered out of the way by other organisations that secured what I have come to call 'funny money'.

    My biggest concern is that it will be the 'who you know teams' rather than 'what you know teams' that deliver the R&D for our future. Not the perfect solution in my mind.

    Therefore would we be better off without government manipulation of business and society with this funding so that the best solutions can 'naturally' float to the top?

    I would like to see the Government stop spending more and more of the people's money on everything and anything. We are spending money we don't have, both public and private sectors, and it will end in hyperinflation i.e. we will all be ruined. Time to start swapping your pounds for gold before we have to start wheeling our cash around in barrows...

    In the area of energy production and conservation, they should just introduce TEQs and leave the market to work out the best solutions to reducing emissions and energy usage in line with the targets they set. People like those who post on this forum could get on with educating themselves and deciding what solutions to implement, not have them dictated from on high and going cap in hand for grants accessed through "accredited" suppliers and funded by the grateful tax-payer. The current system will run into a quagmire of bureaucarcy and corruption and little will be achieved for our hard earned.
