    Hi,

following advice received from GB forum members, I'm looking to install a masonry heater/stove. A rough layout of both floors of my house is attached as a pdf with approx. measurements. The house is in Wakefield.

Are there any masonry stove builders out there who would be willing to talk ideas/prices etc?

Try a search for "Bert Bruins" who used to build these but is now only advisory ...

Hi Numbercruncher, did you ever install a Masonry heater to your building, the only issue I can see is that a Masonry heater should be installed either centrally in a room or on an internal wall rather than an external wall as that location drastically reduces the radiant heat efficiency as you will simply be heating the external wall and therefore the outside.

That will depend very much on the degree of insulation. If you have, as per some other threads, 300 - 500mm walls with 200 EWI, then the heat loss is very small (though not nil, but you lose heat through the walls wherever the stove is) and you have the benefit of all that thermal mass immediately adjacent to the stove.

Yes Nick you are correct, I didn't say it was a no go, I was simply pointing out the ideal situation. And there is no saying that the existing chimney breasts on Numbercrunchers plans are external walls the home could be a semi or terraced house :)

Did you get anywhere with finding a masonry stove builder? I am currently training and will soon be able to offer a design and build service..
