I keep getting emails suggesting I buy solar now, as a new tax is proposed? Can anyone put me wise as to what's really happening?

AIUI, there's a new thing where the business rates on commercial solar installations have been increased considerably (six times what they were?). All sorts of odd consequences like state schools with solar having to pay the new rates whereas private schools (which are typically charities or some such) not. I don't think it affects domestic solar.

Maybe they're talking about something else, of course.

I think this is what Ed is referring to..

    http://www.solar-trade.org.uk/business-rates-self-owned-rooftop/

..but that would effect existing installations so no need to rush to install solar before it comes into effect.

I think the FIT rate also changes every quarter so perhaps they are referring to the reduction due end of the year..

    http://www.fitariffs.co.uk/eligible/levels/degression2016/#contingent

    However that's small compared to...

"The tariffs will be reduced by 10% when the deployment in any technology band hits the caps set by the government".

Are we anywhere near that? Presumably the cap is for the financial year April-April.

I think the reference is more commonly known as a "scam!. If you were being kind you might say its just "sales puff"
