    would anyone be able to advise me on the procedure for replacing the rotten bottom of the box

    Best idea is to pry the whole window each side at the bottom and it will hinge out from the wall . Keep going upwards with the bottom and have a friend catch the top. From there it is self evident and easy. It is possible to do in situ but much easier out.

    Thanks very much tony ....I must admit that I find the idea a bit daunting Ican visualise the whole b***** the falling to bits !
