    Surprisingly can't seem to find any mention of this on here.

    The boys from Darlington producing petrol from air and electricity.

    I was surprised too, but it is an old story and the chemistry is not that hard, just the energy required to produce it is the hard part. They cop out of it a bit when you look at the picture

    Aiui they make Methanol by sticking Co2 to hydrogen.

    Then reform the methanol into higher hydrocarbons.

    Then distill the hydrocarbon to recover the diesel.

    Interesting chemistry, but energy intensive, might be better just to use the hydrogen as fuel. Or the methanol.

    Would be easier to recover the co2 from power station flue, rather than extract it from air.

    Already done with algaes as a test.

    May just be better to use the 'green' electricity where it can save the most CO2e/pollution, so possibly for transport (thinking electric railways rather than road vehicles as the infrastructure and cost is against cars).
    Not making a charter to carry on burning fossil fuels, just that this is not a fully developed idea yet.

    I notice they don't seem to give any figures for the energy efficiency of the conversion process
